The Internal Revenue Service each year provides information on issues, new law and regulations that professional organizations must comprehend when preparing tax returns.  When these new laws are not applied in the approved manner under the Internal Revenue Code and taken as deductions, adjustments are created.   Income tax laws, rules, and tax courts case topics on various issues are not straightforward.  Therefore, individuals preparing your tax return require many years of experience and enough competence and skill necessary to provide an excellent return for you.

Therefore, these new as well as the old laws are sometimes controversial and sensitive so notable tact, technical competence, and skillful negotiation techniques are necessary to avoid adverse attitudes. In my years in dealing with professionals, you learn that each one of these professionals posses the creativity that will enable him to consummate a solution to complex tax problems.   With my 35 years of exposure to the IRS, experience has made me uniquely qualified to present services in a creative and imaginative way.  The normal classroom, on-the-job training and what we do in our profession are essential to collecting accurate data.  With each client, I focus on whether the information matches the current fact and is it associated with the circumstances.  These steps enable us to create a connection with each client problem.  This gives us the opportunity to take added steps to organize the facts to benefit the client against the legal position of the government.  Until I take these extra steps of being the planner, I'm not making good on the services kept to perform.

Retired Internal Revenue Agents

The Revenue Agent position involves technical examinations or auditing tax returns for the correct Federal tax liability. This requires knowledge of accounting and tax laws, regulations, procedures, and related tax matters. Sometimes, Agents provide technical support and advice to the public on tax liability issues.  This requires them to use discretion on their judgement and conduct themselves as representatives of the Federal government.

Retired Appeals Officers

When an examination is completed, explanations for the adjustments under the tax code are given to the taxpayers' representative.  These discussions and negotiations are necessary to avoid adverse attitudes and to persuade the taxpayer's representative to consider paying the tax liability without litigation.

The Appeals Office is separate and independent of your local Internal Revenue Service Office.  Appeals conferences are informal - if the decision reached is not in your support, you can file a petition with the United States Tax Court.  Depending on the dollar amounts, you can represent yourself.
With other cases, the Appeals Officer can petition the tax court and review the cases for the proper application of the law and potentially the dispute of this law in an attempt to reach a settlement without litigation.
